VVV-Venlo brings Willem Janssen back to the Koel. He will become the club’s technical manager from next season.
Janssen was already a player of the Venlo club between 2004 and 2007 and will end his career as a player this summer. His return to VVV means that the current technical manager, Stan Valckx, has to leave the field after almost 5.5 years.
Future Valckx
Whether Valckx will be retained for VVV is currently the question. “At the moment he is thinking about his future, which can lie both inside and outside the VVV”, says general manager Marco Bogers. “Perhaps Stan will seize this moment to embark on a new foreign adventure, but there is also a chance that he will remain active with us as a scout, for example.”
End of player career
For Janssen, who comes from Well, it will be his first job as a policymaker in professional football. He started his career at VVV and subsequently moved to Roda JC Kerkrade, FC Twente and FC Utrecht, where he is now in his ninth season. He recently announced that he would hang up his football boots in the summer at the age of 35.
‘Warm and familiar environment’
Janssen is overjoyed to be able to start his second career right away. “When I was given the opportunity to start working in this position at VVV, the club where I also started as a football player, the feeling was immediately good. It is a great opportunity for me to immediately be allowed to take on such an important position Especially because I can start in a warm and familiar environment, I see this as the perfect first step in my new career.”
Coaching
VVV will fully guide Janssen, who has signed for three seasons, in the coming period. According to the club, an important role is also reserved for head coach Jos Luhukay and Jay Driessen, Roger Bongaerts and Marc van Hintum.
FC Emmen
On Saturday, VVV will be back in action on its own turf. Kitchen Champion Division leader FC Emmen will be the opponent in the Koel, where the stadium’s 50th anniversary is also being celebrated. The match can be followed live on L1 Radio from 4:30 PM.
