VVD member Heerema will stop after the upcoming parliamentary elections

VVD MP Rudmer Heerema will not return as a member of parliament after the upcoming parliamentary elections in November, he writes on LinkedIn.

Heerema, born in Groningen, was a Member of Parliament for the VVD for almost ten years and was mainly involved in sports. He now wants to make way for “new talents”.

Heerema writes that he is proud that he has been able to free up more money for top sport and that at least two hours of sport are now taught at primary schools. He also looks back fondly on bringing major sporting events to the Netherlands.

More than twenty MPs have already indicated that they will not be returning after the elections, such as SP MPs Peter Kwint and Mahir Alkaya, D66 MPs Sjoerd Sjoerdsma and Steven van Weyenberg, CDA MPs Pieter Heerma and René Peters and PvdA MPs Attje Kuiken and Henk Nijboer.

Other leaders, such as Prime Minister Mark Rutte and party leaders Wopke Hoekstra (Minister of Foreign Affairs) and Sigrid Kaag (Minister of Finance) are also leaving the scene in The Hague.
