VfB Stuttgart repeatedly struggled with injury problems during the first half of the Bundesliga season. The Swabians regularly lacked established forces, especially in the attack and defense center. Sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth therefore does not rule out the signing of winter newcomers. But the runner-up didn’t want to do anything with all his might.
Even before the narrow 0-1 defeat at the end of the year against FC St. Pauli, head coach Sebastian Hoeneß had made it clear that he could easily imagine another central defender, and reinforcements are also possible in attack – although the national players Deniz Undav and Jamie Leweling expected back when it restarts on January 2nd.
“The situation is exactly like that,” said sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth about VfB Stuttgart’s transfer efforts: “If a situation arises where it fits – in the tactical structure and in terms of sustainability – we will also think about it.” The club boss specified the runner-up’s plans to the “kicker”.
VfB Stuttgart: With new additions “it has to be right”
“If there are solutions, anticipations can be possible. But they don’t have to,” the 45-year-old clarified in an interview with the trade magazine and referred to the more difficult circumstances that the winter transfer window in January brings with it: “The winter transfer market is shaping up Unlike the summer transfer market, the options are significantly fewer.
There will therefore be no emergency transfers or quick fixes at VfB Stuttgart after an “outstanding year,” as Hoeneß said after the last competitive game in 2024. Most recently, Slovenian international Jaka Bijol from Serie A club Udinese Calcio and Newcastle attacker Miguel Almirón were linked to the traditional club.
There is also said to be interest from the country in Max Finkgräfe from 1. FC Köln and Stefanos Tzimas from 1. FC Nürnberg.
