VAB predicts large crowds on European roads this weekend | To travel

It will be a very busy holiday weekend on European roads, in France but also in Austria and Switzerland, among others. Mobility hub VAB warns about this on Wednesday.

Especially on Saturday it will be very busy on the French roads. After all, there are still a lot of holidaymakers who leave. In the Netherlands, for example, the school holidays start in the south of the country, which means that there will soon be Dutch people on our roads, but also on French roads.

On Friday, traffic will be difficult from late morning on all major roads and very difficult in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The difficulties will be exacerbated in the afternoon around major cities by the flow of commuters and weekend travelers. Traffic remains very busy until late in the evening. In a northerly direction, VAB expects traffic jams in the Sud-Est from the afternoon.

Saturday will be busy everywhere, especially on the A7 in the Rhone Valley. In Île-de-France, the first delays can occur relatively early, especially on the A10, until after noon. It will be quieter on Sunday, except on the A7 in the Rhone Valley heading south.

VAB also warns of traffic problems due to the Tour de France. It will run on Friday between Castelnau-Mognoac and Cahors, on Saturday between Lacapelle-Marival and Rocamadour and on Sunday between Paris La Defense and the Champs-Elysées.

Return trip

The coming weekend will also be busy on the way back from vacation. Problem areas in Austria and Switzerland are the Tauern, Fernpass, Arlberg, Rhine Valley, Brenner, Karawanken and Gotthard routes, as well as the main roads to the Italian and Croatian coasts. Holiday traffic to Northern Europe will also be considerable.

Those who drive to the Netherlands must also take longer travel times into account due to possible blockages by farmers. Motorways, driveways, the entrance to Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport and some border crossings to Lower Saxony (in the province of Groningen) were and are blocked, among other things. In some cases this can cause long traffic jams.

In Germany, the summer holidays begin in Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland. With the exception of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, all federal states are now in summer vacation. Especially on Saturday it gets very busy in Germany in both directions. It also gets busy on Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.
