Coach Marc Schneider from the second division soccer team Greuther Fürth sees Union Berlin’s Urs Fischer as a kind of mentor.
“We are in regular contact, he has shaped me,” said the 41-year-old before his debut in the first division relegated “kicker”: “We are not identical guys or comparable, but we have the same values. His interaction with the players has fascinates me. He is very clear, open and respectful. His success doesn’t surprise me because I know what makes him tick.”
Schneider worked as Fischer’s assistant at FC Thun from 2013 to 2015. During this time, he realized “that I want to take the step,” Schneider explained: “With him, I realized that I wanted to take this path.” In 2017 he was promoted to head coach of FC Thun, and the Swiss has now landed in Fürth via the Waasland-Beveren stopover in Belgium.
