Train traffic between Tilburg and Boxtel has been shut down due to the deployment of emergency services during the large fire in firelighter factory Fire-Up in Oisterwijk. There, a large fire rages in a warehouse full of pallets of firelighters. The fire brigade has scaled up to a very large fire. At about nine o’clock the flames burst from the roof of the building on De Nedervonder.
A lot of smoke is released during the fire. Local residents are advised to close windows and doors and switch off ventilation.
According to a 112 correspondent, the foam installation of the shed had already gone off on Sunday night. This detects and extinguishes a fire. Employees searched the warehouse for a fire, but could not find anything. On Monday morning, employees saw a little smoke coming out of a crack. When the fire brigade arrived, the shed was full of flames.
Four fires in a short time
This is not the first time a fire has broken out at the factory. In June 2013, the Fire-Up building burned down completely. And in September 2019, four fires broke out in just a few days. According to Fire-Up owner Kees van Opstal, the fires were caused by a different composition of one of the raw materials of the firelighters. As a result, the temperature of the mixing tablets would rise, instead of falling.
It is not clear whether this is now the case. Since the fires, the company has taken several safety measures to prevent overheating in the cubes.
Great concern fire brigade
The fire brigade expressed great concern about Fire-Up after the series of fires. “This can no longer be done,” said officer on duty Sasbout Discount about the situation at the time. “The fear that this will eventually lead to a major fire is present with us. An adjusted plan must be made.”
