Trailer: This is what the new “Barbie” film looks like – and this is how Dua Lipa as a mermaid

Warner Bros released a “Barbie” trailer on Tuesday (April 4), in which several characters can be seen for the first time. Before there was only one short teaser. At the same time, social media more actors confirmed. Dua Lipa, for example, will make her screen debut in it.

The trailer makes a distinction between the pink “Barbie Land” and the “real world” that the protagonist wants to live in instead. So far, little is known about the exact plot.

As has been officially confirmed for some time, Margot Robbie will take on the leading role, with Ryan Gosling playing her partner Ken. Other Barbie actresses include Kate McKinnon, “Sex Education” star Emma Mackey and singer Dua Lipa. This can be seen as a blue mermaid, as she confirmed via Twitter with the first promotional image. In addition to her acting debut, there is speculation as to whether the 27-year-old will also contribute songs to the film.

Simu Liu will embody another Ken. Also starring is Michael Cera as “Allan” and Will Ferrell as CEO of Mattel Inc., the inventor and manufacturer of Barbie dolls. Helen Mirren will serve as narrator.

The screenplay for the first live-action adaptation of the popular doll comes from indie cinema couple Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig. The latter is also responsible for directing independently for the third time. Previously, this was the case with “Lady Bird” in 2017 and “Little Woman” in 2019. The comedy will be in German cinemas on July 20th.
