Star designer Tom Ford has just sold his fashion label of the same name to the US cosmetics group The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. Last week after the completion of the takeover, the new owner immediately made sure of a fait accompli and appointed Ford’s longtime employee Peter Hawkings as the brand’s new creative director.
Tom Ford, who will continue to support the fashion house as a consultant for a few more months, reportedly didn’t find it difficult to say goodbye to his former company. The now 61-year-old had already declared when the takeover was announced last autumn that he “couldn’t be happier” with the solution found. And it is now also clear what Ford intends to do in the future: he will now concentrate on current film projects, his production company “Fade to Black” announced on Friday.
Ford has also been able to shine in this profession: in 2009 he was critically acclaimed for his directorial debut “A Single Man”. The drama, produced by Fade to Black and written by Ford, was nominated for a Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, among others. His second film, Nocturnal Animals, was also extremely well received in 2016.
