The KNMI warns for strong thunderstorms that will pass over the Netherlands on Tuesday afternoon. The weather institute has issued code yellow for the entire country. A lot of precipitation can fall in a short time on Tuesday and the KNMI warns for local hailstones up to two centimeters in size. There is also a chance of wind gusts with a speed of 75 kilometers per hour.
According to Johnny Willemsen of Weerplaza, the first showers will pass over the province in the night from Monday to Tuesday. Then it gets very steamy. “It will be 27 or 28 degrees on Tuesday at the most,” the weatherman told the radio program ‘WAKE!’ on Omroep Brabant. “It feels oppressively hot, really stuffy.”
“It will take some time to watch.”
Willemsen expects heavy rain and thunderstorms in the second half of the afternoon. “With hail and gusts of wind, all the trimmings. It’s been a while since we’ve had such heavy showers, so we’ll have to watch out for a while.”
Wednesday will be a dry day with a lot of sun, while we have to expect rain and thunderstorms on Thursday. “After that, a dry and sunny period will start again.”
“Monday morning there was a tropical island atmosphere.”
This Monday started quite cloudy. There was also a reasonable wind. Willemsen spoke on the radio of a ‘tropical island atmosphere’. “But the sun is getting better and it remains dry. It will actually be quite a summer Monday, at about 26 degrees. A moderate wind is blowing from the west or southwest.”
