The Swedish furniture store Ikea is now offering a new payment method throughout Germany that saves one thing above all – time. However, if you want to use it, you need a smartphone.
“Shop & Go” is what sch calls the new way of paying for purchases at Ikea. The furniture store uses the help of customers and the in-house app, allowing everyone to pass the checkout faster and more conveniently.
The advantage of “Shop & Pay” at Ikea
According to a survey by extra Ikea is the most popular furniture store in Germany. In 2021, the company counted a total of approx 32 million customers in more than 50 furniture stores across Germany. It is therefore particularly important for the shopping experience to avoid long waiting times at the checkouts. So far, Ikea has settled purchases either via normal checkouts with salespeople or via express checkouts, where customers have to scan themselves. The process is the same for both. Each product must be retrieved from the cart at the checkout and scanned to determine the total bill of the purchase. But with “Shop & Go” there is now a new payment method at Ikea that saves you this step.

Thanks to “Shop & Go”, customers can now scan their purchases at Ikea as soon as they take them off the shelf and put them in the shopping cart. For this you need a smartphone and the Ikea app, which is free for Android and iPhone are. From the products scanned in this way, the app creates a QR code that customers only have to scan later at the express checkout. The advantage here is that customers do not have to take their goods out of the shopping cart individually again, as they have already completed this step when the products landed in the cart.

Payment method tested in advance
Before Ikea introduced “Shop & Go” in all of its branches in Germany, the furniture chain had already tested the new payment method in selected stores. The locations Berlin Tempelhof, Dresden, Karlsruhe as well as Hamburg Moorflett and Frankfurt Nieder-Eschbach were there. The test phase started there at the end of last year and was successfully completed. “Shop & Pay” is now available in all Ikea branches throughout Germany.
