Nelonen Media’s radio channels will no longer be heard, at least for the time being Lauri Tähkän music with this sentence. The Court of Appeal of Turku sentenced Tähkä on Friday, i.e Jarkko Suonabout being forced into a sexual act.
Nelonen Media’s music manager Jussi Mäntysaari told Iltalehte today, Saturday, that they were thinking about stopping playing Tähkä’s music during the fall, when it was known that the Court of Appeal’s decision was approaching.
– Nelonen’s music lines are not meant to be judgments one way or the other, but as always, we thought primarily of our listeners, Mäntysaari commented by email.
– Those [Tähkän biisejä] however, only a few were played earlier in the fall, because during this year his popularity in listener surveys has clearly decreased. It could be due to trend changes or upheavals, hard to say. The study only measures people’s feelings about individual songs, not the reasons behind the feelings, he added.

Nelonen Media’s policy has sparked a lot of discussion on social media in a short time. For example Iltalehten Facebook– in the comments section of the publication, some Finns praise the media company’s decision.
– That’s right.
– Yes, all the channels should forget to play the music of a sex offender.
– I’ve never listened to his music before, so it’s no different from tomorrow.
– In my eyes, Tähkä’s reputation due to its activities is gone forever. Should that role model still be respected?
– Actions have consequences.
Nelonen Media also receives criticism from some Finns for its decision.
– I’m not a fan, but music has nothing to do with this. Let it ring.
– Is it a radio channel that distributes judgments?
– What about when the judgment has been served? Will the media lynch forever?
– However, other convicts get visibility and even make songs about the subject – to be shown on TV.
– Have they left Jari Sillanpää too music off?

Iltalehti asked Mäntysaari if Nelonen Media intends to make a similar decision for other convicted artists, such as Sillanpää. Iskelmätähti was once convicted of several different crimes, such as drunk driving, the crime of using narcotics and spreading an image offensive to sexual immorality.
Mäntysaari answered the question by stating that the music of Nelonen’s channels is based on music studies.
– When we study music next year, we will find out whether the listeners are affected by the artist’s judgments or the publicity they receive. That is, whether people want to hear Tähkä’s music or not, the music manager emphasized.
Lauri Tähkä’s most famous songs include, among others Bride, Burning and Burning water. The artist’s farewell concert was held at Bolt Arena in Helsinki on Saturday, September 7.
Tahka was sentenced to 70 days of suspended imprisonment. In addition, Tähkä was ordered to compensate his victim 4,200 euros for suffering and temporary inconvenience. Tähkä was also ordered to compensate his victim’s legal costs of around 13,000 euros. Tähkä can appeal the decision to the Supreme Court, if the Supreme Court grants leave to appeal.
