These seven cities compete for the organization of the Eurovision Song Contest | show

Seven British cities are eligible to host the Eurovision Song Contest next year. Birmingham, Glasgow and Liverpool, among others, are on the shortlist of venues to host the event.

Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield are also competing, it was announced this morning in the Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2.

“It’s great to see so many bids from across the UK,” said Kate Philips of the BBC. “We are going to set up a unique song festival that honors the beautiful Ukraine and British music and celebrates creativity and diversity.”

The cities have been able to submit their so-called bid book since last week. With that plan they try to convince the organization to be a suitable host city for the Eurovision Song Contest. Attention is paid to matters such as accessibility, a suitable location and technical facilities. The city in which the Eurovision Song Contest will take place is expected to be announced next autumn.

Last month it was reported that the Eurovision song contest will be held permanently in the United Kingdom. The country took over the organization from Ukraine, this year’s winner, because of the war there.
