Moscow stands for the implementation of the Minsk agreements, the West should encourage Ukraine to do the same, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. So he commented on the statement of the Secretary of the General Council of the “United Russia” Andrey Turchak, who believes that Russia should supply certain types of weapons to the DPR and LPR to improve their defense capability.
“We are supporters of the unconditional implementation of the Minsk agreements, which Ukraine is currently sabotaging,” Lavrov stressed.
He recalled that the Western curators of the Ukrainian regime assured the Russian side that they would achieve the fulfillment by Kiev of its obligations under the Package of Measures signed in 2015 in Minsk. First of all, with regard to the special status of Donbass.
“I proceed from the fact that this obligation lies with the West, and it must ensure that Kiev fulfills the Minsk agreements. Then all questions will disappear. And I really hope that this will be the case,” the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry quotes “Interfax”.
Speaking at the government hour during the plenary session of the State Duma, Lavrov said that the West really wants some kind of real provocation around Ukraine. He called this behavior “a bit surreal” and explained that the goal is “for the Kiev regime to break into a military operation in the Donbass, or in some other way to completely bury the Minsk agreements.”
In addition, according to the Russian minister, the West is whipping up hysteria by evacuating diplomats from Ukraine. This is happening in parallel with the pumping up of the country with weapons and the constant incitement of the Ukrainian elite.
Lavrov recalled that the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelenskyand Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov and other Ukrainian officials say that there is no particular aggravation at the borders of the country. And they urge everyone to calm down. “But the West does not want them to calm down, and does not want to calm down itself, that’s the point,” Lavrov explained.
