What has a year of development cooperation yielded? On Accountability Day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shows what has been spent, done and achieved per theme and per focus country. ‘Despite the corona pandemic, we have achieved good results.’
‘The Ministry of Foreign Affairs works hard every day to create a sustainable world with fewer conflicts, less poverty and less inequality,’ says Kitty van der Heijden, director-general for international cooperation. This was extremely complex in 2021 due to the corona pandemic. Nevertheless, we have achieved good results with our development cooperation efforts. We are proud of it.’
Safety and stability
What has been achieved in the past year? Thanks to Dutch support, 9.7 million farmers were able to make their production more sustainable and climate-proof, 13 million people received humanitarian aid and 7,306 organizations have worked on capacity building so that they can defend the rights and interests of citizens.
Van de Heijden: ‘With this commitment, we not only contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but at the same time we work on our own safety and stability here in the Netherlands.’
