The northern and eastern Netherlands have relatively few police officers

In the distribution of police officers across the country, the eastern Netherlands in particular is badly off. The Northern Netherlands is also in bad shape. The three largest cities, on the other hand, get a relatively large number of police officers, because politicians in The Hague have deviated from their own rules for years.

This is according to research by the NOS. According to The Hague rules, the Northern Netherlands should get 317 more agents, the Eastern Netherlands even 1047.

Advantage for the cities

The money for the police must be divided every year among the ten regional units. This system was devised in 2010, but has not been used in subsequent years. On paper, that distribution key would be the applicable system.

This is to the advantage of the three largest cities: they received more agents than they are entitled to according to the distribution key. The north and especially the east of the Netherlands are getting off badly.
