ADO’20 almost managed to create a real sensation in the first round of the national cup tournament tonight. The third divisionist from Heemskerk forced FC Emmen to the limit and only had to bow in the extension: 2-1.
ADO’20 watched Been looking forward to meeting you all week against the number seventeen in the Eredivisie and started the duel without fear. The team of coach Roy van der Mije could have taken an early lead after two minutes. However, Ruben Doesburg shot over FC Emmen’s goal from close range. The same Doesburg played a leading role again a few minutes later. This time, however, in a negative sense, because the winger had to leave the field after a hard foul with a red card.
Undercount situation
The supper donkeys had to continue with ten men with more than eighty minutes to play. Despite the low number situation, the visitors from Drenthe hardly had any great opportunities. Most of the ball possession was logically for FC Emmen, but ADO’20 remained surprisingly easy. Both teams therefore went to the changing rooms with a 0-0 half-time score.

After the break, the more than 2000 spectators saw that ADO’20 continued to perform very well and even had the better of the game. In the 58th minute, De Vlotter sports park exploded when midfielder Feyo Glim curled the ball beautifully into the top left corner from outside the penalty area: 1-0.
Stunt is in the air
The joy at ADO’20 was unfortunately short-lived. Seven minutes later it was already level when former Ajax player Richairo Živković, who had just come in, headed in a cross. After the 1-1 FC Emmen was in control of the match, but again there were no great opportunities. As a result, it remained at 1-1 and both teams were allowed to prepare for extra time.
In that extension, the resistance of ADO’20 was broken when Azzeddine Toufiqui on behalf of FC Emmen scored in a controlled manner behind goalkeeper Nick Plomper. The Heemskerkers tried again in the last minutes of the extension, but were no longer in their power to equalize and it remained at 2-1.
