Taghi and Mohammed B. are allowed to write each other letters: ‘Prohibition impossible’

Ridouan Taghi and Mohammed B. are allowed to write each other letters in the extra secured EBI in Vught. This cannot be prohibited in advance, for example because it is suspected that they are planning crimes in this way. That said Minister Franc Weerwind during a debate with the House of Representatives.

De Telegraaf reported last month that B. and Taghi sent each other letters in prison with Koran verses, which may contain coded messages. Ridouan Taghi is the alleged leader of the Mocromafia, Mohammed B. is the murderer of filmmaker Theo van Gogh.

The minister said in the House of Representatives on Wednesday that he cannot discuss specific matters, but it was clear that it was about Taghi and Mohammed B.

“I want to but I can’t,” said the minister. According to the current law, certain contact may only be stopped after it has been found that letters contain inadmissible content. But they must be read first. The minister emphasizes that this is now also happening and that in case of doubt the mail will not be forwarded.

stricter law
The minister does want to tighten up the law so that contact between certain detainees can be restricted. Then it is also possible to monitor the contact of certain prisoners and their lawyers. Weerwind wants to send the law to the House of Representatives next spring. With this he wants to prevent prisoners from abusing their contacts.
