Svindal: ‘I have testicular cancer’. The announcement on social media

The former Norwegian skier on social media: “Everything is going well, thanks to the decision to go to the doctor immediately after I realized that something was wrong. And I say thanks to the Norwegian health system ”

This race is worth much more than the two Olympic golds won (supergiant in Vancouver 2010 and downhill in Pyeongchang 2018): the Norwegian Axel Lund Svindal, 40 years old in December, has chosen, as is now customary, the medium of social media to tell fans and friends his misadventure. He has testicular cancer and, after undergoing an operation and starting treatment, he announced that he is looking to the future with optimism.

Grateful

“The last few weeks have been different. But I am very grateful to the public health system in Norway. Thank you! Thank you! I felt a change in my body. I wasn’t sure what it was, or if it was something. But I decided to do some checks. I went to a doctor, and was quickly transferred to the hospital where they confirmed the doctor’s suspicions: testicular cancer. Tests, scans and surgeries happened very quickly. And already after the first week I knew that the prognosis was very good. All thanks to the first decision to go to the doctor right away after realizing that something was wrong. Did you know that testicular cancer is the most common type of cancer for men under 50? And that it is not uncommon for patients to be young in their twenties. I didn’t know, but now I know. What I also know is that men are not good at talking about health problems. And sometimes that’s exactly what you have to do to get acquainted, or to make that good decision of going to a doctor, ”he wrote in his long post, obviously receiving good luck from fans and insiders.
