Superstar brings redemption – Denmark beats Finland

After the 0:4 against Germany, Denmark was under pressure against Finland. The Danes struggled for a long time – until their goalscorer struck.

Denmark has hope for the EM quarterfinals again. After the opening defeat against Germany, the team around superstar Pernille Harder beat the outsider from Finland 1-0. Harder scored the decisive goal for victory himself (72nd minute). After a collision with an opponent, she had to leave the field shortly before the end of the game (86th) due to a head injury.

Despite the 4-0 defeat against Germany in the opening game, Denmark still has every chance of qualifying for the knockout stage ahead of the final game in Group B against Spain on Saturday (9 p.m.). For the first time in the tournament, with Nadia Nadim in the starting eleven, who was controversial because of her role as ambassador for Qatar, the Danes were clearly the better team in front of 11,615 spectators.

Great opportunities remained rare, however. Harder shot a header off the crossbar from substitute Karen Holmgaard from close range. It was the 69th goal in 136 international matches for the Danish record shooter. Finland had already lost to Spain at the start (1:4).
