Stella McCartney is the high fashion label of the same name by British designer Stella McCartney. Their collections include ready-to-wear clothing for men and women, accessories, lingerie, eyewear, perfumes and kidswear.
The designer is a convinced vegetarian and a committed animal rights activist. She is known for using eco-friendly and animal-free alternatives in her collections.
Born and raised in England, Stella McCartney studied fashion design at the renowned Central Saint Martins College in London. She graduated in 1995. Her graduation collection was worn by her friends and models including Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss on the runway to the song composed by her father Paul McCartney "Stella MayDay" presents. Her trademark became elegantly tailored couture, self-confident naturalness and sexy femininity.
After graduating, Stella McCartney became creative director at Chloé in Paris before launching her own luxury fashion house under her name in October 2001.
The fashion house quickly became very successful and is best known for its commitment to sustainability and responsible production. In addition to her main collection, McCartney started a cooperation with Adidas in September 2004, which now includes sportswear for various athletic disciplines. Over the years, the brand has also launched a men’s, children’s and underwear collection.
The designer uses innovative manufacturing processes and sustainable materials such as organic cotton, eco-friendly fibres, recycled polyester and recycled cashmere and even experiments with bio-engineered materials such as Mylo mushroom leather and lab-grown Spider Silk. Celebrities such as the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle and supermodel Gigi Hadid have become fans of the brand and wear the brand’s elegant dresses and coats on special occasions such as the royal wedding.
Today, Stella McCartney operates 51 standalone stores in the world’s most iconic shopping districts, including Manhattan’s Soho, London’s Mayfair, Paris’s Palais Royal, Milan, Tokyo, Shanghai and Beijing. Her collections are sold in 77 countries through 863 points of sale, including specialty stores and department stores, and shipped internationally to 100 countries via online trade.
