Spotify has introduced a new feature called Playlist in a Bottle that allows users to send music to their future self. The feature is reminiscent of the idea of sealing a message in a bottle and throwing it into the sea: the individual music taste of the user is recorded and packed into a virtual time capsule that will remain sealed until 2024. Here is the guide.
A reunion with the musical me of the past
“We know you have a few songs that reflect your mood,” Spotify said in a press release. “To celebrate the New Year, we’re launching a contemporary user experience that helps you capture the moment. The interactive in-app experience captures who you are musically now and lets you see your musical self from 2023 a year later.”
Just a few months ago, the streaming provider shared the “Instafest” function, which allows users to generate their own festival line-up.
Instructions: This is how the individual “Playlist in a Bottle” is created
- With a mobile device on spotify.com/playlistinabottle click.
- Select a time capsule (bottle, jean bag, gumball machine, lunch box, teddy bear or acorn).
- Choose songs based on different questions (e.g. “A song you’re going to kiss someone to this year”, etc.).
- Close the musical time capsule digitally and send it off.
- (Share the time capsule with friends.)
- Listen to the “Playlist in a Bottle” in 2024.
