On the first of three great days, the athletes in the velodrome thrilled the audience. Today at 9:06 p.m., a crowd favorite will get back on his bike and say goodbye to his fans. Former world champion Maximilian Levy (35) goes on his last lap.
When BZ spoke to the successful track cyclist, he was in the training camp. Levy: “I ended my career fourteen months ago, I was fed up. I now work as a youth national coach. At the training camp I am currently looking after eight boys and four girls between the ages of sixteen and eighteen.”
At the Sixdays, Levy sends his young sprinters onto the track and gets on his bike himself for a lap of honour.
Levy: “I think it’s great that the Berlin organizers kept their word and gave me a nice farewell to the fans.”
The Berliner is still ambitious and doesn’t go for a drive on his last lap. Levy: “It is important to be faster than the German sprint women – and they are known to be very, very fast.”
By the way: Havik/Hoppezahk from Holland decide the derny race just ahead of the local heroes Kluge/Reinhardt.
