Frank Dane will not miss Sigrid Kaag after her departure from national politics. He has met the forewoman of D66 once and was not impressed. “She’s cold and chill.”
Sigrid Kaag stops as D66 leader and leaves national politics, in her own words because the threats to her address also affect her family life. Horrible, says Radio 538 presenter Frank Dane. “I was not the biggest fan of Sigrid Kaag, but how she has now been bullied away…”, he says in his afternoon show.
Tackled too hard
Sidekick Airen Mylene wholeheartedly agrees. “This is such a sad decision.”
Frank, Robert Jensen’s brother, thinks that Kaag has been treated too harshly. “I agree. Having to walk around with security and getting death threats…”
Sidekick Jelte van der Goot: “I also threw Twitter off my phone, partly thanks to these kinds of discussions. She is seen as a kind of super-Satan and there are all kinds of conspiracies.”
‘She was cold’
Frank does think that she is not a warm woman. “She was cold. She was a little cold. We had her here in the studio too, at that election time, I remember. And of everyone who came by I thought to her: brrrrr. Yes, cold, a bit haughty.”
Jelte: “She had a bit of a haughtiness.”
Frank: “That, yes.”
Jelte: “It is something that I have the impression that we blame a woman more than a man. With a man it is often said: ‘A tough, steadfast fellow’, and with a woman that is quickly cold or unkind. I always have that idea.”
Heart warming
Airen thinks it’s nice that Kaag has chosen her family. “As a mother, I found it very heartwarming to hear that they… Because earlier those daughters made the call. I understand very well that she listens to that.”
Jelte: “It is so sad that if you are an outspoken politician, you now apparently need all kinds of security.”
Frank: “You know what I think is crazy? That no one really wants to be prime minister. That everyone should think about that, while if you are asked to do so or if you have the chance to get to a place where you can mean something to millions of people, then you should think: I’m going to do that for four years.”
Stench for thanks
Airen: “But then you get a stench for thanks. It’s not like we all say in the Netherlands: you’re doing that well, how nice! No man.”
Frank: “I do feel like seeing new faces, I must say. A few new fresh people.”
