Pimmetje is playful, stubborn and a real cuddly toy. He just misses an owner. The farmer’s fox crossbreed has been in the animal shelter in Breda for almost three years, making it the longest-serving resident of the shelter. The employees hope that he will find a real home. “Pimmetje now gets all the love from all of us, but we really want him to have a home. Preferably before Christmas.”
Almost three years ago, Pimmetje’s owner died and that is why he ended up in the shelter. That was a thousand days ago this week. The shelter staff would like to find someone for the dog. That’s why they posted his photos on Facebook this week. The post has already been shared more than 7,600 times. And despite his happy face, hanging ears and beautiful curly tail, there is no suitable owner for him yet.
Pimmetje cannot be placed everywhere, for example not with children or another dog. “We expect him to protect his food, toys and perhaps his owner, so there is a chance that he will not get along with another dog,” says a shelter employee.
And Pimmetje is also not the best match for those who are looking for a dog to walk with for hours. “He just doesn’t like that. When it rains, he just poops and pees and then he wants to go back inside, that’s how he is,” the employee laughs. She also emphasizes that Pimmetje does not like crowds. He does love food, food puzzles, cuddling and riding in the car.
It doesn’t happen often that a dog stays in the shelter for so long. They have only experienced that once before in Breda. “That dog eventually found a very good home,” says the employee. “How long a dog stays depends on the breed and behavior. A Labrador is very short. A Stafford or Shepherd is a bit longer. Pim is ‘only’ a farm fox, but he does have a backpack.”
The shelter is also strict with the requirements they set for a new owner. “Unfortunately, not everyone understands this, but we don’t want him to come back to us after placement. We have a dog here that has already had nine owners, you shouldn’t want that. So we take a very thoughtful look at what a good There is room for the dog.”
The animal shelter has two dog behavior experts in-house who can assess exactly what a dog like Pimmetje needs. “There are sometimes reactions on social media that make it feel as if people think we don’t understand it. The knowledge is there and people should realize that.”
“Pimmetje is my favorite so if he goes I will shed a tear, but I really wish him.”
For Pimmetje, they prefer a house with a garden in a quiet area. Without children and other dogs. Pimmetje also needs guidance when visitors come, but at the shelter they know how the new owner can best handle this.
If you are really interested in Pimmetje, you can contact him via: profile complete a registration form on the shelter’s website. “There is no point in calling or emailing to come by, because we really need information in advance,” the employee explains. “Pimmetje is my favorite, so if he goes I will shed a tear, but I really wish him it.”
