Füchse Berlin suffered a setback in the fight for the championship and for a place in the Champions League in the Bundesliga.
After a partially desolate performance, the Berliners surprisingly lost 28:32 (14:14) to TVB Stuttgart, who was fourteenth in the table. The foxes slip down to third place. The best Berlin throwers were Milos Vujovic and Lasse Andersson with six goals each.
Coach Jaron Siewert had to do without the injured Paul Drux and Dejan Milosavljev. But even without the captain and regular keeper, the guests got into the game well. After a good ten minutes they were already 8:3 ahead. The attack was effective, the defense was good. And if Stuttgart did get through, there was always goalkeeper Viktor Kireev, who shone with a few saves.
Until the 12th minute – then the Russian saw a red card after a foul. And that was the crux of the matter.
Young player Lasse Ludwig came into the goal for him, who saved a seven-meter throw, but then there was a break in the Berlin game. First less in defense than more in the offensive. Only one goal was achieved for a good eight minutes. Weak and hasty degrees and too many technical errors brought Stuttgart back. Already at half-time a temporary six-goal lead was lost after a 0:5 run.
And the hosts continued seamlessly after the break with a 3-0 run. And suddenly the foxes were 14:17 behind. Siewert took the time-out and raged: “We’ll throw the game away in five minutes.” And yet it didn’t change anything.
In the 48th minute, Vujovic also saw the red card – a tough decision. The foxes were already five goals behind (19:24). And the exploitation of opportunities remained catastrophic. They couldn’t get any closer than two goals.
