Sequel is already being shot — film & series Rolling Stone

40 years after the release of “This is Spinal Tap” it has now been announced that a sequel to the 80s film is being worked on. Even better: the film is already in production. Original cast members Michael McKean, Harry Shearer and Christopher Guest are back on board, along with director Rob Reiner.

Reiner revealed late last year that Elton John, Questlove, Trisha Yearwood, Paul McCartney and Garth Brooks were making guest appearances. In a press release today, Tuesday (March 12), Castle Rock Entertainment officially announced that production “recently” began in New Orleans.

Spinal Tap reunites for one final concert

1983’s “This is Spinal Tap” follows the semi-fictional band Spinal Tap as they tour in support of their newly released album “Smell the Glove.” The British band started in the 1960s with beat songs, then changed their musical style to the flower power movement. In the 1980s, the group ended up in heavy metal and was accompanied by a few crises on their way through the music industry.

In the sequel, the band will reunite for one last concert after a 15-year break. How this will be implemented in the sequel remains exciting, because the last film was more than 40 years ago.
