Schutterend FC Volendam trumped on all fronts: “Terrible for a football player”

FC Volendam has never been able to think of a result against Feyenoord (0-2 loss). According to the trainer, Wim Jonk’s team scored ‘very insufficient’. “These are the moments when you are tested at a high level.”

In the first half, Volendam already faced a 0-2 deficit. The team from Rotterdam looked fresh, despite the fact that they had fought Lazio (1-0 win) in the Europa League until the last seconds on Thursday. However, Volendam was unable to make use of it. “In terms of intensity, we definitely fell short.”

Longing for winter break

It is a tough week for FC Volendam at the moment. The team is at the bottom of the Eredivisie with six points and sees the competition take points. “I don’t care about other teams,” says Bilal Ould-Chikh, who came into the field against Feyenoord at half-time. The winger also questions whether the winter break could be the turning point.

Ould-Chikh was excluded from the selection for the game against AZ last week. A ‘discussion about football’ as Ould-Chikh himself explains it was the reason for that. “That has now been resolved,” says Ould-Chikh.

Against Feyenoord, Volendam missed left back Derry John Murkin. Xavier Mbuyamba was also not fully fit as he went off the side prematurely. Jonk acknowledged afterwards that his team is struggling with a flu outbreak, but does not think that his team is longing for the winter break. The trainer disagrees. “I don’t think that’s an argument.” His team will play at home against FC Utrecht next week. “It’s hard when you get hit every week.”
