B. Schröder on plans and expectations
After FC Schalke 04 returned to the Bundesliga, CEO Bernd Schröder asked for your understanding for the ongoing austerity measures in Gelsenkirchen. “Just because we’ve been promoted and everyone had a really great time together doesn’t mean the world has changed a lot for us,” Schröder said in an interview Newspapers of the “Funke” media group.
The 56-year-old CEO also campaigned for “the right level of expectations” for the upcoming season. For coach Frank Kramer’s team, the task is “clearly staying up in the league”. Schröder emphasized that the royal blues had to cut back on personnel planning for financial reasons: “The prospects have improved a bit, but we still have the mountain of liabilities, the legacy issues. It hurts my soul that we can’t hold an Itakura, it did us good as players and as people. But we can no longer afford to bet on the future.”
Schalke-Bank since Rangnick: 12 head coaches and 4 interim coaches
In the selection of newcomers not only the money but above all the sporting and human factors play a role. “That was the secret of success in the last few games. We didn’t always shine, but we won because the morale was right. That’s why one or the other transfer takes a little longer. We gave up some players because they wouldn’t suit Schalke. Rouven (Sports Director Schröder; ed.) and scouting are doing an excellent job.”
So far, the “Knappen” have been able to present five newcomers for the new season, and the loans of Thomas Ouwejan, Rodrigo Zalazar and Marvin Pieringer have been converted into permanent transfers by clause.
Schalke would like to orientate themselves on the regional rivals VfL Bochum, who, as a promoted team, were recently able to make the league perfect. “The work in Bochum was really solid, even on the way to the Bundesliga. Long-term calm action has been rewarded. This is definitely an exemplary model. That’s how we want to do it, step by step,” said S04 boss Schröder.
Schalke boss Bernd Schröder is looking for a new sponsor – three divisions planned
One of his main tasks is to find a successor for the main sponsor Vivawest, who stepped in after the separation from Gazprom. He believes that “Vivawest” will continue its commitment, said the CEO in an interview: “But on a different level, not on the highest level.”
Schröder wants to split the main sponsor right into three parts: “We have the shirt chest for television, we have the training clothing for social media coverage, and we have our Knappenschmiede. With this division, we no longer need this one huge partner who outshines everything.”
