Only 16 years old Sára Bejlek too the father’s actions caused a small uproar in the tennis world.
Earlier this week, Bejlek qualified for the US Open, the tennis grand slam tournament. Bejlek’s father came to congratulate his daughter and patted Bejlek on the buttocks. After this, the two appeared to share a brief kiss.
The video of the incident went viral quickly. The same video shows Bejlek’s coach patting him on the buttocks.
Bejlek himself has seen the video in question.
– It was a spontaneous reaction from the whole team. We celebrate. It may have seemed inappropriate and uncomfortable for some, but we have discussed it within the team. It won’t happen again, he said of iSport by.
– Father is my father and he always will be. I have known my coach since I was eight years old. He rubs me, and if something like that happened in the Czech Republic, no one would cover the whole thing. But since we’re in the US, everyone comments on it. We’ve talked about it and it won’t happen again.
Bejlek’s streak at the US Open ended on Wednesday in the first round when he lost to the Russian Lyudmila Samosonova 0–2 (3–6, 1–6).
