The International Swimming Federation FINA swims upstream. It will allow Russian and Belarusian swimmers to continue participating in international swimming competitions.
Almost all other sports federations excluded the countries from international events when Russia invaded Ukraine with the help of Belarus.
– this decision was supported by an overwhelming majority of the FINA Athletes’ Committee, which confirmed its opposition to a general ban on competition from Russian and Belarusian athletes, FINA justifies its decision in its press release.
However, according to FINA, both Russian and Belarusian athletes must perform at international events in neutral costumes without country codes.
However, according to FINA, athletes from the above-mentioned countries can be excluded from the competition if, for example, the safety of swimmers cannot be guaranteed.
FINA says it will step up its cooperation with the International Testing Agency (ITA) to ensure that out-of-competition doping control continues in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine even in the midst of war.
