Trio and Werder remain interested
“I am an extremely ambitious competitive person. “I want to play in the Bundesliga as quickly as possible, I don’t have any time to lose,” Fabian Reese said recently. The 26-year-old was always convinced that this was still possible with the newly formed Hertha BSC despite an initially weak start to the season. The Berliners have now been unbeaten in all competitions for eight games in a row and climbed to seventh place in the second division table. But even if promotion with the Berliners doesn’t work out, the left winger is likely to play in the Bundesliga next year with the “Old Lady” despite his contract until 2026.
As “Sport Bild” reports, there are a number of interested parties from the German upper house, all of whom had already courted the right-footer at Hertha before Reese signed, but were rejected. These are 1. FC Köln, VfL Wolfsburg and FC Augsburg. Second division team Hannover 96 is also said to have made an appearance.
According to the magazine, there was even a meeting with those responsible for “Effzeh” at the time, but Reese, as is well known, decided on a different path and turned down the “billy goats” as well as the “wolves”, whose offer is said to have been the most financially lucrative. At the time of Reese’s signing in Berlin, their relegation was not yet certain.
The new applicant for Reese is Werder Bremen, under whose coach Ole Werner the Kiel native has played the most games in his career so far with 59 at KSV. The winger moved to the Spree from his youth club Holstein Kiel on a free transfer in the summer and has since developed into an absolute top performer. His personal record so far includes four goals and seven assists in 16 second division games, making him one of the top five best scorers. In the DFB Cup there were three goals and three assists in three games. His market value recently rose to a career high of 2.8 million euros and will rise significantly again in the 2nd Bundesliga update on Friday.
