PSV won 3-0 against NEC on Sunday afternoon. In a match that was not exactly high-quality, Ruud van Nistelrooij’s team had no problems with the Nijmegen low flyer.
It felt a bit like a mandatory birthday with the in-laws on Sunday afternoon. Despite the fact that PSV already made mistakes against Cambuur and FC Groningen this season, it did not get into any problems against NEC. From minute one it was already clear that the home team was going to win the game.
The Eindhoven team took the lead via Anwar El Ghazi. He shot in a cross from Cody Gakpo. Before halftime it even seemed to be 2-0 via Luuk de Jong, but in the run-up to the goal, offside was found.

Know-it-all uncle
Who clearly did not see it as a mandatory birthday was the VAR. The video referee played the know-it-all uncle and was also eager to show that he was present.
This was also the case in the second half when PSV received a penalty within a minute. Xavi Simons approached the keeper but was thrown off balance by a sliding by a NEC defender. After much deliberation, referee Martin van den Kerkhof was called to the screen by Sander van der Eijk. But luckily for PSV, his judgment stood. Luuk de Jong took advantage of the opportunity and gave PSV a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Not much later, Erick Gutiérrez’s foul was again looked into. But after much thought again, the VAR announced that it did not see a red card in it.

Equipped for Ajax
After the 2-0, little happened in the second half. NEC could have come back into the game fifteen minutes before time. But Ivan Marquez headed wide from close range. Yet there was still a final chord from the home team. Noni Madueke put the 3-0 final score on the scoreboard. A goal that will go down in the history books as PSV’s 3000th home goal.
The Eindhoven club is waiting for a tough week with an away match in the north of Norway against Bodø/Glimt and then next Sunday to play against Ajax.
Ruud van Nistelrooij already started the match with five other names than against Arsenal and the trainer was also able to switch during the match. It is expected that this will also happen on Thursday so that they can start well rested in the topper. A topper that will absolutely not feel like a mandatory number.
