Despite the intense photos that Nicol Kremers has released of her alleged abuse, Peter Gillis is still allowed to stay with SBS 6. “This is also a private matter.”
The stars of SBS 6 can really do anything, because only two things count for their big boss John de Mol: viewing figures and advertising income. Peter Gillis is suspected of so many cases that the court can now open an annex at one of his holiday parks. When is the measure full?
Private matter
Nicol Kremers has decided that she still wants to report abuse by Peter. She has released intense photos via Shownieuws star Patty Brard in which she looks quite battered. Is this finally the reason for John de Mol to tear up his contract with Peter?
Shownieuws star Bart Ettekoven: “Of course we also called Talpa, because the photos we showed yesterday were quite shocking. The photos Nicol had texted Patty. Whether this means anything for the broadcasting of the series. But they don’t want to comment because – they still say – it is a private matter.”
Horrible man
Victor Vlam, one of the most important media opinion makers, finds it incomprehensible. He says in the podcast The Communicados: “The problem is: he’s just a terrible, terrible man. He has always been jerky, always unkind to his people.”
He continues: “But it has also been added that he is being prosecuted by the Public Prosecution Service for the abuse of his ex-girlfriend. That is, of course, a very serious matter. He was also imposed fines by all kinds of municipalities (…) and there are other controversies surrounding money laundering, intimidation, tax evasion and so on.”
Sat with Gillis
According to Victor, you can no longer look away. “So this is someone who now really has a lot to do and I think that many viewers are also a little bit fed up with him.”
Why Talpa still continues? “I don’t know, because in the past it scored quite well, so I think they just made the calculation of: well, the viewing figures are still good, so we earn quite a lot of money from him and that of course also helps other programs on SBS 6.”
Lower ratings
However, Peter’s viewing figures have now undeniably fallen, Victor emphasizes. “It is becoming increasingly difficult to justify. And I actually think it has become unwise.”
For the time being, Talpa is using all his channels to help Peter get back on the saddle. “Yes, he was also defended on Talpa channel Radio Veronica (…) I don’t understand why they do it.”
