‘NPO 1 will miss him a lot’

Arjen Lubach is the top scorer of NPO 1, but his seasons are short. He will broadcast for another four days next week and then it will be over. “The channel will miss him quite a lot.”

He is a bit like the Eva Jinek of the NPO: Arjen Lubach. He is on vacation more often than he is at work. However, there is one big difference between the two: Arjen earns a million euros a year. And that while his viewing figures are literally twice as high. De Avondshow with Arjen Lubach was another hit yesterday.

Better than Journal

This time Arjen managed to captivate 995 thousand viewers (22 percent market share) with his satirical show on the late evening of NPO 1 and that is just very good, explains viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp. She points out that the market share in the commercial target group – 25.5 percent – is even one percent higher than that of the Achuurjournaal.

Unfortunately for NPO 1, Arjen’s seasons are short. Last year he was on the channel twice for two months, from the end of February and from the beginning of September. This year his season started at the end of January and the final is next week, so also after about two months. He is not expected to return until after the summer.

‘going to be missed’

Tina thinks that Arjen will be greatly missed in the next five months. “Arjen almost has the last episode and he will be missed on NPO 1, and also by Op1 in terms of intake.”

How are they going to replace Arjen? Well, not. “In fact, NPO 1 will actually broadcast one program less per evening from April. Op1 then starts at Lubach’s time and the late news can then already be seen at 23:00 to 23:15.”

KVW in the lead

The big winner in prime time yesterday was the Keuringsdienst van Waarde with 1.1 million viewers (22 percent) on the new home network NPO 1. The most watched alternatives were NPO 2’s Opsporing Requested (785 thousand and 16 percent) and RTL 4’s Kidnapping ( 748 thousand and 16 percent).

At half past nine, SBS 6’s Today Inside (883 thousand and 19 percent), the tail end of RTL 4’s Kidnapped and NPO 2’s Nieuwsuur (594 thousand and 13 percent) took the lead. NPO 1 lagged behind with 517 thousand viewers (12 percent) for Burgerzaken.
