No World Cup villages outside yet, only inside
We will probably not get the great outrage during World Cup matches of the Red Devils: that will be in November. There are no plans for such a World Cup village in Kortrijk, it will not be economically interesting, it sounds like. In Bruges, too, it remains to be seen whether such an outer village will be built. “One must take into account that we do not have that many squares available,” says Mayor Dirk De fauw. “The Christmas run will continue on the Zand, there is also a market on Saturday: it is mandatory to clean up everything between all competitions and then rebuild.”
Indoor or World Cup villages
There are initiatives inside: Waregem Expo will have a football village for 5,000 fans with free admission. “It is not interesting to put thousands of people outside in rain or cold weather,” says Chris Baert of Waregem Expo (photo). (read more below the photo)
In Ostend, 2,500 fans are welcome at the Wellington track for a fee. “We have fixed costs anyway to get everything organized,” says Olivier Orlans. “For the five euros that people pay, they also get a show with DJs afterwards. With that five euros we know who is inside and we have a view of ticket sales, if we don’t do that, 6,000 people can be at the door To refuse 4,000 more: that’s not an option either.”
Belgium’s first game will be against Canada on November 23.
