Nico Schlotterbeck’s release clause at Borussia Dortmund continues the rumor mill. A club to which the BVB defense chief’s exit option is said to apply is reportedly intensifying its interest.
According to “Bild”, this is Real Madrid. The Royals are planning a major squad shake-up after two titleless seasons in a row. The designated new head coach José Mourinho is therefore considered a fan of Schlotterbeck.
The plans in Madrid should already be relatively concrete. Since the so-called World Cup clause in Schlotterbeck’s contract applies to Real, they want to make an offer to the 26-year-old national player as soon as possible.
According to the report, the former Freiburger himself is said to have raved about the Royals as a possible employer of the future in his close circle.
At the World Cup, Schlotterbeck could play even more into Madrid’s focus with good performances in the DFB uniform.
The central defender signed his new BVB contract, which runs until 2031, in April after much back and forth. However, information about the exit clause quickly became public.
In addition to Real, this should also apply to FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC.
If one of the clubs mentioned takes the option, BVB will reportedly receive a transfer fee of between 50 and 60 million euros.
BVB brings in expensive top talent
For their part, Dortmund have already become active in the transfer market and have signed a new man for the center of defense in French youth international Joane Gadou from Red Bull Salzburg.
According to reports, almost 20 million euros went to Austria for the 19-year-old.
But it is also clear: If Schlotterbeck leaves, BVB needs a successor who is not a perspective player and is suitable as immediate help.
The Dortmund decision-makers will therefore follow Real’s supposed advances like a hawk.
