After numerous speculations on social media about the corpse of rapper Gonnew, his mother is now clarifying: The person recently placed in the club is said to have actually been the corpse of her son Gonnew. In a statement, she said she was “glad that she sent her son away.”
The rapper’s body was embalmed and placed during a funeral service at a Washington DC club. Gonnew, whose real name is Markelle Morrow, was shot March 18 during a robbery in Prince George’s County. He succumbed to his gunshot wounds a little later and was only 24 years old.
The funeral service caused outrage on social media
The memorial service honoring Gonnew was reportedly announced as “Goonew The Final Show,” according to Shade Room. In addition, all visitors would have had to pay an entrance fee of 40 US dollars. Only a little later, the first videos and pictures of the unusual funeral service landed on social media. On Twitter, the community was particularly divided about whether it was really the corpse or a guard figure.
The family of the deceased has now told the American television station “WTTG” that Goonew did not want people to be sad because of him. “With all the negatives, people probably don’t even know about us,” said the mother, Patrice Murrow, of the memorial service. “You have no idea. People just say what they want to say and that’s okay. This is completely right. I’m happy with how I sent my son away. I wish people would just let me grieve in peace.”
