The party started last night in Herberg ‘t Plein in Meppel. Party duo De Dikdakkers received a gold record for their hit here, in their home base Cowboys & Indians. Singer Jan Biggel, known for the song Our mother still sea, handed over the plate. The hit has since yielded nine million streams.
“We are very happy”, responds Hans Voogd. He and his partner Anton Geerts are both from Meppel. “I did not expect it. I hoped that it would come someday. Because of course you keep an eye on the streams. But this was a goosebumps moment.”
The duo released the song in 2007. So it is already fifteen years old. “And still young and old participate in such a beautiful song,” says Geerts proudly.
Geerts and Voogd have been a party duo for years. They know each other from primary school. It once started with karaoke acts, later they really started singing. What makes their acts such a success?
“It’s interactive,” explains Geerts. “People can participate. You sing about something and people can then portray it. That’s also with The Kite Song zo.” The latter is one of the many sing-alongs from their rich repertoire.
During the World Cup, De Dikdakkers is again one of the most booked acts. And with a World Cup comes a brand new World Cup song. It’s called ‘For Gold with Orange’. According to Voogd, whether the song will be a success depends on the performance of the Dutch national team. But that it is again a festive sing-along, that already seems certain.
