Berlin and Brandenburg’s medical officers are now also on a confrontational course with the Neukölln city councilor for health, Mirjam Blumenthal (50, SPD).

Reason: In Berlin’s most populous district, there will no longer be a public health officer. Blumenthal axed the position because there was no suitable replacement for the public health officer Dr. Nicolai Savaskan (48) found.

The Association of Doctors in the Public Health Service is protesting against this. According to a statement, the plans to create a non-medical top management team instead of having the health department headed by a doctor specializing in public health are being observed with great concern.

According to BZ information, the health department will be managed by a lawyer in the future – and a subordinate medical management will take over the medical tasks.

According to the association, this contradicts the Health Services Act. Blumenthal’s decision also shows “once again the lack of knowledge of the comprehensive technical tasks of the health authorities”.

The association demands: “Stop the ‘Neukölln model’ directed against the coalition agreement!”
