Catherine Keyl thinks that Matthijs van Nieuwkerk would not do well with a commercial adventure to try out on RTL 4 or SBS 6. “I think the EO suits him best.”
It is now one hundred percent certain that Matthijs van Nieuwkerk is working on a return to television, but in what form that will be cast is not yet clear. He left BNNVARA with anger and most other public broadcasters want to await the investigation into misconduct at the NPO before they start working with him.
‘Does not fit with RTL’
Only two broadcasters are already open to Matthijs, namely EO and PowNed. It’s unclear exactly what the commercial situation is. After the Voice scandal, RTL 4 is extremely careful when it comes to TV stars with misbehavior and he is currently not welcome there, but at SBS 6 misconduct does not seem to matter.
Catherine Keyl thinks that such a commercial adventure does not suit Matthijs, she says in the Weekend. “Whether RTL doesn’t want to burn his fingers on him after the The Voice scandal? Peter van der Vorst doesn’t seem like a scared man to me, so if he really wants Matthijs, he will approach him. But I don’t think Matthijs fits very well with RTL.”
Talpa then?
And what about Talpa? John de Mol really doesn’t care what his stars get up to and he has an infinite amount of money in his backyard. Don’t either, says Catherine. “SBS 6 is a mismatch, it is a kind of popular broadcaster and Matthijs is popular, but not popular.”
A return to BNNVARA then? “I understand that Matthijs no longer wants to work at BNNVARA. They let him do what he wanted all these years, never corrected, but suddenly they stand on their hind legs.”
“EO is great!”
Then the EO, says Catherine. “I myself have enjoyed working for the EO and I think that broadcaster suits him best. I don’t think Matthijs could get a daily program at the EO, but his Saturday evening show Matthijs Goes Door should work out.”
He should go back on the tube anyway, she thinks. “Of course people will soon be able to look at him again. It turns out that what has been said about him is very good. We are going to get the same story with Marco Borsato, just pay attention.”
