Marc Van Ranst opens first art exhibition in Knokke
The collection of prints of the virologist’s digital work was named “Metamorphosis, exploring abstract realms through digital art”. Van Ranst has selected his most colorful works for this exhibition. His black and white works are not discussed here.
Most of the works in the exhibition are printed on aluminum under acrylic glass. Van Ranst chooses acrylic because that material creates the illusion of depth. The virologist realizes that as a starting artist he is still looking for his own style. He therefore leaves the pricing entirely to the gallery’s experienced team.
Photo as an introduction to colors and shapes
The well-known virologist started taking pictures about 10 years ago. This was followed by the introduction to digital art software and everything started rolling. On the advice of his son, he posted some works on social media last year and that was well received.
Van Ranst is a man of digital art, but he also experiments with works in material, such as wax technique. Yet Van Ranst’s process still starts with a photo that he took himself, even though that photo is often barely recognizable in the end result of the work.
