Handball champion SC Magdeburg has to do without his Danish world champion Magnus Saugstrup for months. As the club announced, the 26-year-old had surgery on his right knee.
The exact diagnosis of the injury that the line runner suffered in the DHB Cup quarterfinal game at THW Kiel in extra time was not announced.
The club estimate three to four months downtime, meaning that Saugstrup will not play for the champions again this season. It is still unclear whether the SCM will be active again on the transfer market.
It is already the second failure of a top performer in Magdeburg. Before that, goalkeeper Omar Ingi Magnusson was out of the season due to a heel injury.
