Kortrijk Spurs wins the derby against Ypres and keeps the lead in sight
Kortrijk eagerly starts the race. Mathieu Coucke crosses the entire field, passes to De Ridder and he finishes nicely. Coucke is untenable in the first quarter, where the visitors quickly reach seven points. Defensively, the Kortrijk residents are vulnerable. The home team responds to this and can close the gap. Anthon D’herck interferes well, steals the ball and brings Ypres back to 18-19.
Thomas Mertens takes his team in tow in the second quarter. Anthon D’herck gives Ypres the lead for the first time in the match with this lay-up: 23-21. Ypres seems to go into the break with a lead for a long time, but that has not been counted on Nicholas Tomsick, with a three-pointer he leads Kortrijk into the dressing room 40-43.
The home team starts the second half weakly, allowing the Spurs to open a ten-point gap in no time. Kortrijk is sharper and more eager. Niels De Ridder can easily put the 53-65 on the board between two defenders. The game seems to be over after the third quarter.
The fourth quarter is a measure of nothing. Gil Dieltiens still unpacks with a nice three-pointer, not much is coming in at Ypres anymore.
