Andrea Principi is a kind of kite revolutionary. The Big Air World Champion is preparing for the upcoming GKA Big Air World Cup Lord of Train in April in Barcares, France. As? THE EVOLUTION OF THE KITE (photo 1)

In recent years the kite has made a leap in quality and innovation, at the moment the Big Air is the most popular because it combines difficult maneuvers with important heights. “Five years ago, the scene was more or less always the same”, tells us Andrea who started with the kite at the age of 11, “but in the last two it has changed a lot. We are going more and more towards the extreme, looking for stronger winds and more demanding manoeuvres. The distance from the water increases and the risk of injury increases; if you get it wrong, helmets from 20/25 meters and the impact can be very strong and dangerous”.

the passion for flying (photo 2)

Big Air is a sport that takes athletes to extreme heights and therefore to the exposure of significant risks. “I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of flying and with the kite I climb and jump as much as I like and do all the maneuvers that come to mind. Sometimes I wake up in the morning, think of a maneuver, think about it, then go in the water and try until I succeed. Some are very difficult, but there is always the adrenaline that pushes me to continue and to close them. Sometimes when I fall into the water I just think of the luck of still being alive!”

ATHLETIC PREPARATION (photo 3)

But how does Andrea Principi prepare physically? With intense CrossFit workouts to increase muscle mass and prevent injuries and many hours spent in the water with the kite. To help and direct him is his coach and mental coach. Because the goal is not only to structure and strengthen the muscles, but also to remain clear and centered from a mental point of view

the future (photo 4)

Principi is still a very young athlete (18 years old), but he has very clear ideas about his future: “I intend to win as many competitions as possible and make my career last for many years – he tells us -. Later in time maybe I’d like to design and develop new kites”.

SURPRISES FOR FRANCE (photo 5)

For the near future, however, Andrea announces surprises for the race in France and new communication projects. I will keep them secret until the April competition and, after the competition, I will give them a name and collect them in a video that will be released”.

In short, Principi promises to put a real revolution in the world of kitesurfing in the water (and in the sky). But while waiting to make judgments, let’s get ready to witness something completely new and spectacular. Adrenaline is guaranteed.
