In his second year in the NFL, Christian Watson has not yet been able to build on his strong performances from the previous season. Teammate Jordan Love encouraged the Green Bay Packers wide receiver.
Last Sunday, Watson had another used evening in the meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers (19:23). In this game he only caught two balls to gain eleven yards of space – a symbol of the 24-year-old’s season so far.
Above all, the connection to Jordan Love doesn’t seem to exist yet. The fact that the quarterback tried to reach Watson with his two interceptions fits into the picture. But instead of criticizing his pass receiver for it, Love advised his receiver on Wednesday not to be discouraged by such failures.
“My message to Christian is: Just keep your confidence. I have full confidence in Christian. I know he knows that because I trust all of my receivers,” Love assured reporters, adding: “The ball will always come out. Keep it just that trust.”
Aaron Rodgers’ heir also doesn’t believe Watson will let the current criticism get him down. “When you lose, a lot of people point the finger at you. That’s because of the game. He’s a professional, he knows that. That goes for everyone in the locker room,” Love reported.
NFL: Christian Watson remains optimistic
Watson proved this on Wednesday by speaking about his confidence in his breakthrough performance this season.
“At some point it will click,” the WR is sure. “It’s just mentally tough knowing it hasn’t happened yet, but at the end of the day I can’t control or change anything that happened in the past.”
In the future, however, the form curve of the entire team must first point upwards. “The better we can play as a team, the more opportunities everyone will have,” believes Watson, who has only won three of nine NFL games with the Packers this season.
