Jantje Goeree (97) from Zwartemeer is almost birthday. But after almost a hundred birthdays, she has no more birthday wishes. Yet her children don’t just let the moment pass. They come up with something fun for their mother.
“We are making Mom’s wishes that she has repeatedly said over the years come true today,” daughter Jantje Goeree says on behalf of the children.
At the age of 92, Jantje Goeree was rejected to drive. She became dizzy from time to time and the danger to her and other drivers became too great. She also missed the company in the car herself. But Jantje Goeree always kept saying that if she still had her car, she would still drive a bit.
That’s why she gets a driving lesson for her birthday, which her children have already told her. “She didn’t think she needed driving lessons,” her daughter says. “But we see it this way: she can just drive and if she needs help, there is someone next to her. She loved the idea!”
Jantje Goeree has had a lot to choose from in her life. It’s not going well today either. She has to get into the coach with bruised ribs. That doesn’t stop her from the adventure. The brave action of the lady stands out. Neighbors on the balcony wave her goodbye as she drives down the street.
