Jan Böhmermann – TV presenter, satirist, musician – and the radio dance orchestra have been on the “Ehrenfeld Intergalactic Tour 2023” since January 4th. At one of the last shows in Bochum, Böhmermann pulled an ace up his sleeve: Herbert Grönemeyer surprised the audience as an unannounced special guest.

As “WAZ” and “FAZ” reported, Böhmermann initially intoned a few lines from “Men” alone in the first third of the show at the Bochum Ruhrcongress. But he broke off because “only one person can actually sing the song”. Herbert Grönemeyer then came on stage, who had not been announced to the thousands of spectators. Then the two sang the classic from the 80s in a duet to the end.

Interesting background facts about Bochum:
Born in Bremen, Böhmermann is a self-confessed fan of the “Starlight Express”: a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Richard Stilgoe. All of the actors appear on roller skates. In Germany, the play has been running continuously since June 12, 1988 in the specially built Starlight Express Theater in Bochum.
Grönemeyer, who is now 66 years old, also grew up in the city and dedicated an unofficial anthem to it with the song “Bochum”.
More about the orchestra and the tour
Altogether Jan Böhmermann and the orchestra held 15 live shows through Austria, Switzerland and Germany under the direction of Lorenz Rhode. The last two dates are on January 20th in Frankfurt a. M. and on January 21 in Stuttgart.
At the beginning of 2017, the ensemble “RTO Ehrenfeld” in Neo Magazin Royale, under the direction of Lorenz Rhode and Albrecht Schrader, succeeded the rapper Dendemann. The orchestra was specially designed for the show. In the years 2018, 2019 and now in 2023 the dance orchestra went on national tours together with Jan Böhmermann.
