The Italian plan envisages an energy saving of 15 percent between 1 August 2022 and 31 March 2023. There are several parts to the plan, with heating targets in particular. These should help to absorb the sharp decline in supplies of Russian natural gas. For example, the temperature in industrial buildings must drop by one degree to 17 degrees. In other buildings, 19 degrees will become the norm, also one degree lower compared to the current rules.
In addition, the heating period is shortened by 15 days throughout the year. In addition, the daily heating period is shortened by one hour. The measures do not apply to hospitals, rest homes, childcare and primary schools.
Due to the different climate, the country is divided into six climate zones. In the coldest zone there are no restrictions, while the warmest part of the country is only entitled to 5 hours of heating per day from December 8 to March 7.
