Roelof Hemmen has decided to absolutely never work for John de Mol’s media company again. He thinks Talpa Network treats employees in a rude way.
As a newsreader, Roelof Hemmen has been part of Frank Dane’s morning show on Radio 538 for a year and a half. The program was abruptly stopped at the end of last year due to disappointing listening figures. Now Frank returns in the afternoon of 538, but Roelof is no longer present. He will never set foot over the threshold at Talpa again.
very cold
Roelof is very shocked by how cold the Talpa management is. According to him, the way in which Frank’s entire team has been kicked off the channel does not deserve a beauty prize. “We were called between Christmas and New Year’s Eve that the program would be presented by someone else and that we were thanked,” he says in Weekend.
It came like a bolt from the blue, says Roelof. “We could have gone on for another month, but we kindly thanked you for that, that would have been a bit like playing at your own funeral.”
Never again at Talpa
According to Roelof, Talpa does not work in a delicate manner. “We were really brutally pulled apart and thrown off the transmitter. Of course, a board of directors can simply decide that things have to be done differently, I have nothing to say against that, only the way in which it was done was not good. I was a bit angry about that.”
The return of Frank in the afternoon of 538 does not mean the return of Roelof. “I don’t have much with Talpa. When they kicked me out like that, I told them I never want to work for Talpa again. So I don’t think it was obvious that they would ask me, haha!”
Back on TV?
Roelof is still known to the general public as a newsreader of RTL Nieuws. He was asked this summer to do some shifts at RTL Z.
Will that have a sequel? “I don’t know, could be. No, they haven’t asked me yet, haha. But I am perfectly happy with the life I now lead. I am independent, have done fun things for TV and radio, do conferences, make podcasts, give training in media presentation. I have a great business like this.”
