Singer Janna was preparing for a cabin trip on Thursday, July 6, when the preparations took a special turn. He was returning by car to his home to pick up things for the trip, when he witnessed an unpleasant situation in traffic near his home on a small road.
Janna noticed that the car in front ran over the squirrel and just kept going. Instead, Janna stopped her car.
– The squirrel managed to climb onto the sidewalk, limping a bit. I thought it was salvageable. I absolutely did not want to leave it at that, Janna tells Iltalehte on the phone.
It seemed to Janna that the car tire had hit the squirrel’s right paw and caused the squirrel to limp. There were no external signs of serious damage.
Janna soon wondered how she could help the injured animal.
– It occurred to me that I once heard that you can take injured wild animals to Korkeasaari. The squirrel was packed up for a ride with another man who came to the place, and I took the squirrel there.

Sad news
Due to the incident, the departure to the rental cabin was delayed, but Janna felt it was her duty to help the Polish squirrel. The singer also updated about it on social media in her Instagram stories. He says that the motive of the social media updates was not to make him a hero.
– I don’t want to boast that I just did something great. Many people probably don’t know that in such a situation you can take injured animals to Korkeasaari. That’s why I started sharing it on social media, Janna points out.
The next day, he received an email from the Korkeasaari wildlife hospital, telling him about the fate of the squirrel. Unfortunately, the news was sad. The squirrel had died from his injuries.
– Apparently it had such serious internal injuries, Janna says.

Squirrel memory from childhood
Despite the sad ending, the singer is happy that an attempt was made to save the little animal.
– At least everyone loved him and tried to save him. The company was tough, but unfortunately the injuries were too big.
The attempts to rescue the squirrel brought back childhood memories for Janna. Their family had a cat that bit a squirrel. Janna took the squirrel home with her musician parents Maarit and Sami Hurmerinna.
In general, Janna recognizes herself as a very animal-loving person. This has also affected the life choices made by the woman.
– I don’t eat meat because I don’t want to support any animal-related violence and meat production, Janna says.
